Current projects

I was initially trained as an architect and later on as a social scientist. My work focusses on ethnographic studies of urban public spaces in Paris, New York City and elsewhere. My main field sites are urban interstices (wastelands, leftover spaces), parks and gardens, subways and ferries, streets and squares. I am currently working:

1. -on environmental mobilizations in the Paris region with researcher Nathalie Blanc (project CAPADAPT), with professor David Lepoutre and the school of compost (project COMPOST).
   

2. -with Professor Setha Low as a member of the Public Space Research group (PSRG)
   

3. -with Rashmi Sadana (George Mason U.) on a reader on “ethnographies of mass transportation in a globalized world.”

1. -- with William Kornblum, an ethnography of the 7 train subway line in NYC (see book below)
   

2. -with Martin Aranguren, on emotions in the Paris subway (see publication below)
   

3. -with Michele Jolé for the city of Paris on the uses of Paris public gardens. (see pdf report below).
   

4. -with  Stefan Shankland, Gilles Montmory, Lise Sera and Silvana Segapeli, on the work of an artists in a construction site in Ivry sur seine : TRANS305. (see pdf report below). A book is out with Archibooks Press, Crossborders collection, 2016. Link to publisher
   

5. -with Ida Susser on a project entitled “Transformative Cities.” See article below.
   

6. -with Samuel Bordreuil and Ann Lovell on a project about the publics of the reconstruction of New Orleans post Katrina.
   

Projets en cours

J’ai une formation d’architecte et de chercheur en sciences sociales. Depuis ma thèse, je mène un travail ethnographique sur divers types d’espaces publics urbains à Paris, New York et ailleurs. Mes principaux terrains sont les interstices urbains (terrains délaissés, friches), les parcs et jardins, le métro et le ferry. Je travaille en ce moment sur plusieurs projets:

1. -sur les mobilisations environnementales dans la région parisienne avec Nathalie Blanc (dir. CNRS, projet CAPADAPT) et sur le compostage collectif avec l’école du compost et le professeur David Lepoutre.
   

2. -avec Setha Low et le “Public Space and Research Group (PSRG)”
   

3. -avec Rashmi Sadana (George Mason U.) sur un projet de manuel sur “l’ethnographie du transport collectif dans un monde global”.

4. -avec Stefan Shankland, Gilles Montmory, Lise Serra et Silvana Segapeli, sur un projet de recherche sur le rôle du plasticien dans un chantier de construction à Ivry sur Seine: le TRANS305. (voir rapport plus bas). Un livre est paru en 2016t chez Archibooks, dans la collection crossborders.
   

5. -avec Samuel Bordreuil et Anne Lovell, sur un projet d’étude des publics de la reconstruction de la Nouvelle Orleans depuis l’ouragan Katrina.
